What Does A Day In VO Look Like?

What a Day in VO Looks Like for Me

Not all voice actors have the same schedule, and how we divide our time can vary a lot. Today, I want to share what a typical day in voiceover looks like for me.

The first thing I do when I step into my booth is check my email. This can include all kinds of things—questions from clients, responses from people I’ve reached out to, audition requests from agents and casting sites, and more. Depending on what’s in my inbox, I prioritize my tasks accordingly. I always check the due dates for auditions and projects to make sure I meet (or preferably beat) deadlines. If something is urgent, I tackle it right away.

Once my inbox is handled, I shift my focus to non-recording tasks. Lately, that means a lot of direct marketing—reaching out to companies and potential clients to ask about their VO needs and how we might work together. I also spend time on platforms like LinkedIn, searching for game studios and learning more about their projects. When auditions are slow, this kind of outreach is where I put most of my energy.

Of course, my day can shift at any moment. If an audition comes in while I’m working on outreach, I pause to check it out. Depending on the deadline and urgency, I might record it immediately or schedule it for later. Some days, I also have live-directed sessions. These typically don’t last more than a couple of hours, but they require some planning. On days I have a session, I make sure to organize my schedule ahead of time so I know exactly what needs to get done and when.

No two days in voiceover look exactly the same. Some days, I attend VO workshops, while others are slow with barely any auditions to record. The lack of consistency can be tricky, so I always write down what I can work on to avoid getting distracted. Having a flexible schedule is key—it allows me to shift gears when things pop up and make the most of my time.

At the end of the day, voiceover isn’t just about recording—it’s about managing your business, staying proactive, and always being ready for the next opportunity.
