The Importance of Having a Website

Why Having a Voiceover Website Is So Important

Having a voiceover website is
so important. How else can you easily direct people to your demos or the work you’ve done? You don’t need to go overboard with a super fancy website, but at the very least, you should have a simple, clean place where people can listen to your demos and samples.

When I first built my website, I kept it pretty basic. Over time, I expanded it to include several pages like a homepage, about, demos, services, and contact. Having these sections helps me showcase not just my work, but also who I am as a voice actor. Your website is often someone’s first impression of you, and you want to leave a positive mark.

Your website is also a great place to build your brand. Think about your colors, your tone, and what you want people to feel when they land on your page. For me, I use blue and white because (a) I genuinely like those colors, and (b) they fit my brand

One huge perk of having your own website is that it can help with SEO (Search Engine Optimization). This basically means your website can show up on Google when someone searches for voice actors like you. I’ve written blogs (like this one!) to help improve my SEO, which makes it easier for people to find me online.

Another practical benefit is that it’s so much easier to send a website link than to paste a bunch of demo reel links into an email. Some people who are just starting out may use platforms like SoundCloud to host their demos. And hey, that can absolutely work! As long as people can hear your demos, you’re good. But honestly, using SoundCloud or other free hosting platforms might feel a bit less professional. Having your own website gives you more control, makes you look more established, and shows that you’re taking your career seriously.

Your website is like your home base. It can grow with you as you add new demos, book new projects, and develop your brand. You’re not depending on casting sites or social media algorithms, you’re building something that’s yours.

So if you’re on the fence about making one, I highly recommend you take the step. Start small, keep it simple, and build it up over time. Your future self will thank you!
